Phillip, a native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, came to Chicago by way of Washington, D.C. to attend law school. Phillip completed his undergraduate work at George Washington University and received his law degree from John Marshall Law School in 1992. He has dedicated his professional life to serving clients ever since.

After spending nearly a decade in the office of the Cook County Public Defender, where he defended crimes ranging from juvenile offenses to capital murder, Phillip shifted to private practice. While continuing to represent clients charged with criminal offenses, Phillip expanded his areas of expertise to include civil rights violations, successfully litigating federal cases resulting in multi-million dollar jury verdicts.

Phillip lives in Chicago with his wife and law partner, Elizabeth Vitell.

​​Elizabeth Vitell, J.D.

 

Elizabeth Vitell grew up in the Washington, D.C. area and in Chile, South America.  She received her undergraduate degree in Spanish Literature from Mundelein College, now part of Loyola University of Chicago.

Elizabeth attended DePaul University College of Law, obtaining her J.D. In 1993. Her career spans a wide array of service in the public sector, including the offices of the Cook County Public Guardian and State's Attorney and a term as Bureau Chief at the Illinois Attorney General's Crime Victims Services Division. Elizabeth has also served in the nonprofit area as regional manager for South America at a human rights agency and as executive director of a local social services provider.


Currently, Elizabeth practices law with her partner and husband, Phillip L, Coffey, handling civil rights cases and other civil matters. They live in Chicago, where Elizabeth also enjoys teaching yoga.
